Ingredients
1 head Cabbage
1 small onion
1/4 Chana Dal
1/2 tspTurmeric powder
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves
1 green chilli
1 tsp red chilli powder
2 cloves Garlic
1/4 cup grated fresh coconut
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
1 spring Curry leaves
Pinch of Hing
1 tbsp Oil
Instructions
- Soak channa dal for half an hour.
- Cut the cabbage into small dice pieces.
- Take a shallow frying pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil on low flame, add ½ tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds let them splutter.
- Next add green chilies, saute for a second or two till the chilies change color.
- Add chopped onion,saute them till they turn soft, add curry leaves.
- Now add turmeric powder, tsp red chilli powder and a pinch of asafoetida.
- Mix the spice powders with the rest of the ingredients.
- Now add the chopped cabbage, mix everything.
- Add salt, stir well again and add sprinkle little water as the cabbage itself releases some water, saute on a low flame and cover with a lid.
- Keep on stirring at intervals of 3 to 4 minutes for uniform cooking.
- Add grated coconut and mix well.
- Switch off the flame when the cabbage is done and cooked well..
- Garnish with coriander leaves and then serve cabbage kobbari kura as aside dish with rice / rotis .
